Xylitol, also known as birch sugar, has been used for years not only as a substitute for sugar, but also as a prophylaxis against tooth decay. Xylitol is obtained from the birch tree. It has approximately the same sweetness value as table sugar. It has no effect on the blood sugar index so its use is recommended for diabetics.

Stevia is a plant known for centuries in South America for the intense sweetness of its leaves, also used for 5 decades in East Asia. It is 150 to 250 times sweeter than sugar and unlike it does not provide calories or increase blood sugar levels, so its use is suitable for diabetics.
